Banana face

Bananas are an excellent source for potassium, zinc and iron, plus many of the vitamins in the alphabet (A,B,C and E to be exact), so it’s no surprise that Fair Trade organic bananas are Community Natural Foods’ #1 seller!

Bananas are great for you inner health to aid in reducing high blood pressure and strokes, and they are great for energy too.  But the sweet yellow boat-shaped fruit is also great for your hair and skin!

We’ve provided some great tricks to use bananas to benefit your beauty, plus some of our favourite banana recipes to get all the healthy perks that they provide!

Bananas do wonders for your skin when applied topically because of the large amount of vitamin C and B6.  These vitamins help provide wonderful elasticity to the skin.  Plus bananas have about 75% water so they help keep your skin hydrated.

1. An easy way to benefit from the powers of bananas is to rub the inside of the peel on your skin. Keep the residue on for 10-15 minutes and then wash off.  You will immediately feel a difference (which will be much smoother, soft skin)! Don’t limit this to just your face - elbows, knees can be included too, plus this technique is great to heal warts.

2. For the ultimate face mask, mash a quarter of a banana with 1 tbsp of ground oats and apply to your face.  Let it sit until it’s dry (approximately 20 minutes) and then wash off with lukewarm water.  The vitamin A found in bananas will restore any lost moisture in your skin to provide a silky smooth surface.  Plus whatever is leftover, you can eat!

3. To make a tasty full body scrub, blend 2 bananas and 4-5 strawberries until smooth.  Stir in 3 tbsp of sugar and apply before your next bath or shower.

Just like skin, bananas are great for enhancing the glow and elasticity of your hair!

1. To help soften your hair, mix together 1 banana, 1 avocado and a slash of coconut milk.  Apply the paste to your hair and wait 20 minute before rinsing it out.

2. For hair that may be dry and damaged, mash 1 banana with 3 tbsp of honey and apply to damp hair.  Let it sit for 20 minutes before washing it out completely with shampoo and conditioner.
