Detox cleansing

It’s that time of year where many of us decide to start our year off on a new and healthier path. Often we look to cleansing for a kick start after the holidays.  The big question is where do you start? At CNF we have your covered! Whether you just want to clean up your diet or want to do a full on cleanse we have the kits and the know how to help you out.  Check out the list below or connect with one of our knowledgeable in store staff. Either way we are here to support you on your health journey.

**Caution – Be sure to consult with your health care provider before starting a detox regime. Some of these may not be appropriate for certain health conditions such as diabetes or pregnancy. When cleansing you may also experience detox symptoms such as fatigue, aches, headaches, bowel symptoms such as bloating, gas, constipation or loose stools. Each person’s experience will be different.  It is best to start a detox or cleanse on a day that you can stay at home and rest.

Eat Clean Diet Modification

Let’s start with the simplest way to get on a healthy path after the holidays; eating a cleaner diet.  This means different things to different people but essentially the goal is to let your body rest by reducing the food and drink that is more difficult to digest. In addition you want to eat more foods that are nutrient dense.  Give yourself 21 days of eating at your best to experience results.

Step One

Add in more nutrient dense foods. These foods include: vegetables especially green leafy such as kale, spinach, chard, romaine etc., eat healthier fats such as avocado, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, flax seed oil and other cold pressed minimally refined oils.  Eat lean meats and fish if you eat them. Eat more raw nuts and seeds. You may choose to just be plant based.

Step Two

Remove/reduce the food and drinks that are difficult to digest. These items include: fatty meats, dairy, alcohol, processed foods, Trans fats, excess coffee (a cup a day is okay – black), gluten (found in wheat, rye, barley), fried foods, refined foods including sugar, candy, flour etc.

Step Three

Start eating clean preferably on a weekend. Be sure to drink plenty of filtered water and herbal teas, tone down your schedule and get extra rest during the kick start.  Enjoy the results; you may actually feel so great that you continue this diet modification going forward.

Apple Cleanse

The apple cleanse is a super simple and effective way to cleanse after the holiday season. For 2 days eat only unpeeled, organic apples. Eat them in place of your regular meals and in between as snacks. Feel free to eat as many of them as you want. You can keep to one variety or choose different varieties to vary the flavors. Organic apples are best to avoid any pesticide residue.  Drink only pure water and herbal teas during the cleanse.

It is best to prepare for the apple cleanse for 5 – 7 days before by cutting down on tea, coffee, alcohol, carbonated beverages and carbohydrates like pasta, bread, cereals. Reduce the size of your meals and make your last meal before the cleanse a large vegetable salad with a little healthy dressing such as fresh lemon juice and a little cold pressed oil.

After the 2 days ease back onto a clean eating food plan. Start by eating a bowl of mixed fruit, or a healthy green smoothie, some vegetable soup or a plate of steamed vegetables.

Juice Cleanse

Juice cleanses are a great way to give your digestive system a break. It can be a bit more complicated and it does require a juicer but a short term cleanse will definitely give your system the boost it needs.  Check out the link below for the method and recipes for a 3 day winter cleanse from our friends at Mind Body Green.
