It’s wonderful that Calgary now has a blue-cart recycling program, but let’s not forget that reducing waste is still the most important of the three Rs. Applying some common sense and imagination to the lunches we pack for ourselves and our children is one of the best ways we can cut back on home, school, and workplace throwaway trash. Considering that a “normal” child’s lunch generates about 30 kilograms of waste during the school year, there’s lots of room for improvement.
