Chyrstel has a passion for bringing local food to the little mountainous community of Canmore. This passion led to her first business, a small community supported agriculture food box program. As a result, this small operation of 36 boxes has brought cheap and accessible produce to residents of Canmore. Chrystel is also involved on a board for the Canmore Community Gardening Society, where she is working hard to find a place and funds for Canmorites to grow food. Chrystel, determined to create community around food has begun developing backyard share programs, allowing people who want to grown their own food and those with backyards that are available to meet and begin developing their food patch. Chrystel’s food box program creates a real buzz in town, especially during Friday afternoon food pick-up. Through her actions on a daily basis Chrystel Keeps 912.54 kg of CO2 out of our atmosphere, generates 1 hug, connects to 19 people, saves 2 Kilowatt-hours of power, generates 11 smiles and saves $2.00 dollars.    

Lee continually impacts everyone around her by her loving compassion and vegan lifestyle. By teaching others about her dietary choices and volunteering weekly at RASTA, she helps contribute to a sustainable society. She has a weekly vegan potluck party which helps spread the vegan lifestyle. As a stay at home mom, Lee runs her own jewellery making business by creating sustainable one-of-a-kind pieces made from fallen bird feathers or other neat forms of nature. Lee inspires everyone around her by living her life to the fullest and constantly adhering to her values and morals, such as non-violence, whether it is in regards to animals, humans, or the earth. Through her actions on a daily basis keeps 5.54 kg of CO2 out of our atmosphere, generates 1 hug, connected to 19 people, saves 2 Kilowatt-hours of power, generated 14 smiles and saves $2.00 dollars.   

 Offering a wealth of knowledge and experience from around the world, Rob's portfolio includes a three month internship at the Permaculture Research Institute in Australia, a six month sabbatical learning about renewable energy systems in Denmark and off-the-beaten track travels throughout Mexico examining sustainable agriculture practices. He has hands-on experience with numerous concepts including low-energy homes, wind turbines, biological waste-water treatment and broad-acre water harvesting. Bringing together mechanical engineering, renewable energy and permaculture systems, his consulting company Verge Permaculture specializes in creating sustainable human environments using whole-systems philosophies and working with nature. Through his actions on a daily basis Rob keeps 914.82 kg of CO2 out of our atmosphere, generates 1 hug, saves 1 Litre of water, connects to 23 people, saves 4 Kilowatt-hours of power, saves 1 piece of paper, generates 10 smiles, keeps 1 plastic bag from landfill, saves $3.08 dollars.

We wouldn’t say that committing an act for 30 years is really that random. However over the past thirty years Colleen Strebchuk has taken care of and raised 5 biological children as well as over 80 foster children. In addition she is grandmother to 23. Colleen is deeply involved in the lives of the children she fosters; encouraging education and reading. The children that are under her care improve tremendously academically due to the care and attention she gives, and the teachers are always pleased with her support. Nothing can begin to describe her unconditional love. She accepts people for who they are and meets them where they are at. She washes and feeds and cleans and reads and washes and feeds and cleans! She is truly an incredible woman. In addition she is active with the church, with the regional foster parents association, and has lifetime memberships in other associations. On a daily basis through her actions Colleen keeps 916.64 kg of CO2 out of our atmosphere, generates 6 hugs, saves 10 Litres of water, connects to 24 people, saves 42 Kilowatt-hours of power, saves 1 piece of paper, generates 15 smiles and saves $4.73 dollars.    

Lauren Mangion founded Conscious Home out of her passion and dedication to lessening human impact and creating a healthier relationship with each other and the natural world. She has a BA in International Development Studies, experience with several environmental and social-based non-profits and a keen understanding of the potential of sustainable business. She is a founding member of REAP and sits on the board of directors. As well as the co-creator of the Bownesion Urban Permaculture Project which educates people about converting lawns to product food growing spaces. In addition to Conscious Home Lauren also works with Green Calgary in their Healthy Homes Program further assisting Calgarians to make positive choices. Currently she is pursuing her doctorate in zero waste living and car independence. She is an excellent example of how an individual can create change. On a daily basis through her actions Lauren keeps 922.47 kg of CO2 out of our atmosphere, generates 1 hug, saves 10 Litres of water, connects to 35 people, saved 6 Kilowatt-hours of power, saves 1 piece of paper, generates 18 smiles, keeps 1 plastic bags from landfill and saves $3.31 dollars.
